Built by an original stock plan of Bateau Design we had
modified under customer request the cockpit layout to allow use
and storage of diving equipments.
Outboard powered by a
cheap Yamaha 2 strokes 85 HP giving as result a boat with a
simple character, economic and easy to run.
Designed with
a simple vee-hull based on a proven work boat type, the Panga is
a boat very common in Africa and Asia, in particularly in
Indonesia and the Philippines.

All Panga boats evolved from the same original hull shape: a
fishing boats designs from the F.A.O. for third world countries.
In the FAO project, the accent was on ease of building and
economical operation. Soon builders modified these plans to
allow the boats to plane with larger outboards but keeping the
original narrow beam, fine entry and high bow.
The
results are fishing boats of moderate speed designed to hold
heavy loads while maintaining full efficiency.
The
Bateau design that we used is based on that hull type, but
includes the straight run needed to get on a plane.
Like
other Pangas, this boat are strong but simple in the same time
and really economical to operate.
This Panga design has a
slightly straighter sheer that gives a little bit more cockpit
depth.
The Panga 25 is a very efficient boat for his
length. The cockpit is self-bailing up to a displacement of
3,400 lbs. at level trim.

We built it completely unsinkable with the addition of
expandable foam under the sole and under the gunwales.
We recommend a 75 to 125 HP outboard.
The interior
is clean and simple with a lot of space.
The wide
open space can be easily used to accommodate a family for a
day on the water or like in our diving version to house 8
divers with all necessary equipments.
We leave complete
freedom in the layout of the boat up to customer.
As
long as the frames shown on the plans are present and common
sense it is used in weight distribution, almost anything is
possible: simple open plan with a center console, thwarts,
longitudinal benches, small or large casting deck etc.
Building method:
The boat is built in stitch and glue
fashion but is a true composite sandwich.
The
plywood is a core sandwiched between layers of directional
glass and it is the fiberglass with epoxy resin and it is
the fabric laminated skin that supplies most of the
strength, not the plywood.
As in our other boats, the
frames and decks are part of the structure. We can build
this Panga also in composite sandwich with Polypropylene
Honeycomb core and multi axial fabrics with isophthalic NPG
polyester resins.
Our built Panga it is showed in the
main Panga boat page of www.Bateau.com website as probably the best built from
this plan.
